Greg was up with the sparrows this morning and went for a pre-dawn walk in the chilly, but clear and crisp morning along the levee bank. Wendy followed some time later.
After a leisurely breakfast we left at 8:30am and our first stop was at the dump point. That task completed, it was off to to Charleville to refuel the car, and mornos for us. We bought our mornos from Heinemann's Bakery and Coffee Shop where we had had lunch during our previous visit to Charleville last year. This bakery is one of the biggest and most automated west of the range. The automated plant can produce 1000 loaves an hour - impressive! A sneaky and very lazy breeze in Charleville ensured we did not linger long.
Both roads travelled today were new to us (Augathella to Charleville, and Charleville to Quilpie) and were really good. A few bumps here and there, and most without verges, but very smooth. The Diamantina Developmental Road is the longest road in Australia at 1344km long; we only did 210km of it today. We will do another 238km when we travel onwards to Windorah.
We arrived at the Channel Country Tourist Park and Spas at Quilpie just after 12:30pm and set up our house on site #8; a bit of a tight squeeze getting in but Greg did a magnificent job. After lunch, Greg went for a ride to explore whilst Wendy played domestic goddess and did the washing - had to do four loads in this small machine, but probably could have done it in three.
Just before sunset we headed out to Baldy Top lookout where we got a panoramic view of the local area. We also saw the sunset.
