Day 4: Surat to Mitchell, 168km

11 - 31 degC

Greg was up early again. After breakfast we hopped on the bikes and rode into and around Surat before the Cobb&Co museum opened at 9am. After registering, we viewed the art in the gallery by a fellow named Tony Walker (probably not a relative). Nothing really stood out. After a quick look around the museum we headed back to the vans for mornos.

Just after 9:30am, we were on the road again, heading for Roma where we had our lunch in the park adjacent the Roma Information Centre and Big Rig. Having been through this display last year with G&Y, we decided to move on after lunch.

We arrived at Mitchell at the Neil Turner weir camp about 2:30pm. The first site we picked was right in the middle of a dust bowl and as the wind was quite blustery, Wendy got covered in dust whilst applying the ramps and chocks. So, we spied a concrete slab a bit further on so decided that would be better. G&Y are beside us and M&S are in the paddock on a grassy site.

Set up the van and went for a walk on the weir, then Greg rode into town (~4km) to the post office and Wendy went for a walk to the amenities block which looks alot further away than the 500m it is.

As we only had a light lunch at Roma, we are having pizza for dinner tonight.

The roads were much better today; there were still some lumpy bits on occassions, but generally, an overall improvement on yesterday.
