Day 19: Sat 29 Aug - Hughenden to Charters Towers, 246km, total towed: 2440km

10 - 24 degC

We were on the road just after 8am after our walks and breakfast. Stopped for mornos at Prairie hoping there would be something for us to see. Alas, there was nothing immediately visible and the wind was REALLY bad by this stage so we huddled in the van.

Arrived at Charters Towers, after travelling another new road for us, just before midday and Brad showed us to our site - #12 - a slab sight. We were given a choice of slab or grass, and we went with slab. Good choice as we are on the end and have a wider site than those on the grass. When I mentioned to Brad that he diagnosed a suspension problem with our van last time we were here, he remembered us and also remembered that this was not the van we had. He also remembered there was a group of us.

After setting up, we decided that we woud have lunch out instead of dinner and we had it at the Sovereign Hotel and the meals were good. Off to Woolies to restock the pantry and fridge then back to the van. Whilst Wendy did some washing, Greg went for a ride. He ended up at the Cemetery to try and find his Great Great Grandmother's grave site (we tried last time we were here, to no avail) and thinks he found it. The sites are not laid out in numerical order which makes it even more difficult to find. It is also unmarked so more research is required and he will eventually put a headstone, or similar, or mark the grave.

An afternoon drink, ended another day on the road.
