11.1 (feels like 8.9) - 26 degC, fine and sunny all day. Wind picked up in the morning and by the time we got to Surat, it was almost non-existent.
Greg was up before 6am for his morning walk. He came home and presented Wendy with Maccas coffee in bed! What a nice surprise.
After a quick breakfast, it was off on the bikes with Mark and Sue. We did the Myall Creek pathway again and home via the Dalby Catholic Church; one of the nicest churches we've seen in the rural parts of Australia. Packed up on our return and were on the road just before 9:30am. First stop was at Tara for mornos. A miscommunication somehwere along the line had us exploring Tara on our own. On our way back to the van we decided we needed lunch so stopped in at the bakery and bought a chicken and vegetable pie each and ate them in the van. They were very nice and it is always nice to support the locals in these hard times.
A further 66km down the road we stopped in at Meandarra to see the Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum. $5 entry to a very clean and well laid out little museum; for such a small town, they have done exceptionally well. A short walk down the main street and it was back on the road to Glenmorgan. Here we were expecting to see the Vintage Car Museum, which was closed. There were however, many classic rustbuckets sitting in his paddock which could be classed as 'vintage'. If only the owner knew that some of these vehicles rusting away in his paddock could be quite valuable. We opted to not visit the Botanic Gardens just outside of Glenmorgan, and about 7km off the highway, We figured it would look much like the surrounding landscape we had been seeing for the last 100km or so. Memories of the Tamworth Botanic Gardens came to mind, so we kept driving.
We eventually arrived in Surat about 2:30pm and set up at Fishermans Park - a donation camp on the Roma side of the Ballone River. Waiting for the others to catch us up and will go to the pub with them, for dinner.
Scenery today was your typical Western Qld agricultural type - some crops, some stock, and then some plemty of nothing.
The road from Dalby to Tara was ok, with some lumpy bits. From Tara to Meandarra, we thought we were on the worst road ever. However, that was yet to come. The road from Meandarra to Glenmorgan and then onto Surat was downright awful. Average speed today was about 80km/h.
