Our morning ride took us to places on the outskirts of town we had not been before when we were here last, with the exception of McDonalds for mornos (we decided to treat ourselves to a coffee and a muffin each). The muffins were so big we kept half each for dessert after lunch. Whilst Wendy came home after mornos and did some domestic stuff. Greg continued on, meandering around this interesting town full of lovely old buildings from the goldmining days. The light wasn't all that good for photos but he took them anyway.
Homemade pizzas were on the menu for lunch, Wendy has got them down pat, working out the fanforced oven in the van nicely. After a little rest Greg went off riding agian, up Tower Hill, around town and across to the old cemetry. He seems to think that this historical cemetry has sustained more damage (looks deliberate) since we were here last. How's that saying, you can judge a society by the way they treat their dead?? The number of very young childern in the graves is testiment to how tough times were during the gold rush. They had a way with words back then, some lovely verse on a few of the surviving headstones.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent relaxing crocheting, sampling some nice red wine, watching Sunday arvo footy and the highlights from the 2020 TDF on the box.
There's gold just laying around everywhere still!!
Some old railway stuff near the current station.
Wards Blue Store, there's lots of vacant shops in town now, sadly.
Centataph
Ex bank, now the World Theatre
A very smelly flying fox colony
Admin building at a college
The Court House
Morning ride
Catholic College
Yet another disused church
Surely this important cemetry deserves better.
Afternoon ride
A small nugget we found!!
