Day 17: Thu 27 Aug - Winton to Hughenden, 214km; total towed: 2194km

11 - 28degC

We were on the road just after 8am this morning not because we had a long distance to travel, rather we wanted enough time to see the sights of Hughenden before the end of the day. We stopped at Corfield for mornos and there is nothing much there.

Arrived at Hughenden at 11:30am at the Hughenden RV Campground where you have to declare you are fully self sufficient and self contained. No toilets here, but there are plenty in town. And, if we have to use the van loo then so be it. That is what it is made for after all.

After a light lunch and a rest, we toured Hughenden on the bikes. First stop was at the Info Center to get a tourist map. Probably the most interesting thing is the solar farm and it is not on the map. We did find one sign that told us a bit out it though. It was also very hard to photograph, so Greg resorted to getting one from Google.

We ordered takeaways from the Chinese restaurant and took it up Mt Walker to watch the sunset. The meals were as good as any Chinese restaurant in Chinatown Sydney and the sunset was nothing to write home about.

We'd been warned the road from Winton to Hughenden was boring, however, there was always something to see along the way. There is a disused railway line parallel to the highway and we reckon this would make a great rail trail. Not much between drinks though.
